Which bed linen is best for me?

Have you ever thought about how much time we spend in bed? On average, it’s a third of our life – a considerable amount of time where we are in direct contact with the fabric of our bed linen and sheets. This makes choosing the right ones that much more important.

With so many bed linen options available, making the right choice can be overwhelming. Let us guide you through the CURA bed linen range, so you can find the perfect match for your needs and preferences.

Down to the basics: Which bed linen material to choose

Cotton bed linen

All our bed linen families, CURA Satina, CURA Crisp Cotton, and CURA Lyocell Cotton, contain 50 to 100% cotton.

Cotton is a soft, breathable, and completely natural fabric choice, known for its durability and versatility. It also has excellent temperature-regulating properties, helping to keep you comfortable throughout the night, whether it's warm or cool.

TENCEL™ Lyocell bed linen

Lyocell is a 100% biodegradable, plant-based fibre derived from wood cellulose. With its long fibres, lyocell offers a soft, cool feel and a smooth surface. It’s one of the most breathable fabrics available, providing excellent moisture absorption to keep you dry and comfortable during the night.

Moreover, TENCEL™ branded lyocell fibres, like the ones used in our CURA Lyocell Cotton bed linen, are renowned for their eco-friendly closed-loop production process. The trees used in production require no fertilisers, pesticides, or irrigation, making lyocell a truly sustainable fabric choice. This is the perfect option for anyone who values both comfort and environmental responsibility.

Fabric weave in our cotton bed linen: What it means and which one you should choose

When it comes to our pure cotton bed linen, CURA Crisp Cotton and CURA Satina, aside from their thread count, the primary difference lies in their weave. While both are made from high-quality cotton, each offers a distinct feel that suits different preferences.

Cotton percale vs. cotton sateen

Cotton percale offers a high level of breathability, making it an excellent choice for staying cool during warm nights. The tight percale weave gives the fabric a crisp, smooth texture with a matte finish. It’s durable, resistant to pilling, and softens with each wash – much like linen – increasing comfort over time.

Cotton sateen, on the other hand, provides a silky texture with a slight sheen, offering a thicker, more luxurious feel. It’s softer to the touch compared to percale, making it a great option for those who prefer a smooth, elegant sleeping surface. Sateen tends to feel a little warmer, which is perfect for cooler months or for sleepers who enjoy a cosy feel all year round.

Good to know: What's the difference between sateen and satin?

The difference between sateen and satin can be confusing, as both refer to fabric with a satin weave. Here's a quick overview:

  • Sateen is typically made from natural fibres like cotton, using a satin weave to give it that signature shine and smooth finish.
  • Satin is often made from synthetic fibres such as polyester nowadays, resulting in a glossier, shinier surface but often with less breathability, leading to increased sweating.

Thread count: What it means and what you should look out for

All CURA bed linen has a thread count of either 200 or 300. While thread count is often considered a marker of quality, it’s only one part of the equation. A higher thread count typically means a denser fabric, which can feel more luxurious but might also retain more warmth.

For this reason, our CURA Crisp Cotton range is designed with a slightly lower thread count to enhance the fabric’s lighter, summery feel, while our CURA Lyocell Cotton and CURA Satina ranges have a higher thread count to promote their luxurious hotel-like quality and smooth feel.

Which bed linen is best for you?

  • If you prefer a crisp, cool feel and lightweight bedding perfect for summer and warm nights, CURA Crisp Cotton with its percale weave is the way to go.
  • For a luxurious, silky-smooth texture, CURA Satina offers an elegant finish that feels incredibly soft to the touch, ideal for cooler sleepers or those who want that hotel-quality aesthetic.
  • If you're looking for an eco-friendly, sustainable option with excellent moisture-wicking properties, CURA Lyocell Cotton is your best bet, blending the breathability of cotton with the environmental benefits and smoothness of lyocell.

We hope this guide has helped you better understand the differences between our bed linen families. Each one offers something unique and hotel-like, but whichever you choose, you can trust that you’re investing in high-quality, comfortable, and durable bed linen.

By allowing you to mix and match your preferred duvet cover and pillowcase sizes, we ensure that no fabric is wasted, and you get exactly what suits your needs best. • Which duvet covers are best for weighted duvets?
  • All CURA duvet covers work perfectly for our weighted duvets! Each duvet cover is equipped with eight fastening bands inside, where a weighted duvet can be attached. Because of their weight weighted duvets tend to slide around in regular duvet covers without fastening features, which can disturb your sleep and comfort. If you want to learn more tips and tricks about making the bed with a weighted duvet, check out our guide.
  • Which bed linen is best for summer or hot sleepers?
  • Breathable bed linen in cooling materials like CURA Crisp Cotton or CURA Lyocell Cotton is perfect for summer or those who tend to sweat a lot.
  • Which bed linen is best for winter or autumn?
  • CURA Satina and its thicker cotton sateen fabric make for a great choice for the colder months in winter and autumn.
  • Which bed linen is noniron or doesn't crease easily?
  • If you prefer bed linen that is low-maintenance, noniron, and keeps your bedroom looking effortlessly neat, CURA Satina or CURA Lyocell Cotton are your best bet. Their smooth, durable fabric naturally resists creasing, unlike other fabrics such as cotton percale, ensuring a polished look with minimal effort.
  • Is CURA bed linen certified?
  • Yes! All our pillowcases and duvet covers are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. This means that they have been tested for over 1,000 harmful substances, guaranteeing that they are harmless to our health.
