How to wash a weighted duvet

Washing your weighted duvet - a guide!

If you take care of your CURA duvet right, you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come. Here, we have put together general advice and tips on how to wash your weighted duvet.

Washing advice

WASHING ADVICE FOR WEIGHTED DUVETS IN THE CURA PEARL COLLECTION

All CURA duvets are washable. The CURA Pearl Classic can be machine washed at 60 degrees, and can be spin dried at a low speed. None of the CURA Pearl models can be tumble dried or ironed. We recommend drying them at room temperature or outside. When drying, the duvet should always be fully stretched out in all directions. The CURA Pearl models can even be dry cleaned, but not using chemicals that are stronger than perchloroethylene. Do not use bleach.

FREEZING AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO WASHING

An alternative way of washing CURA duvets during the winter is to freeze them. When the temperature dips below freezing, hang the duvet out on your balcony or terrace, or even just lay it in the snow. This is an effective way to eliminate bacteria and mites.

General advice

USING A WEIGHTED DUVET

There is no right or wrong way to use a weighted duvet – you know what suits you best. The vast majority of our customers use their duvet every night, but there are some who only use theirs when they feel a little too awake and are having difficulty getting to sleep. Many even use their duvet on the sofa to unwind a bit before going to bed.

WITH OR WITHOUT DUVET SHEETS

We often get asked by our customers if they should our weighted duvets with or without duvet sheets. It is, of course, a matter of taste, but because it is easier to wash a duvet sheet than a whole duvet, we recommend that you use duvet sheets. When you make the bed with a weighted duvet, the duvet may move around slightly in the cover.

MAKING THE BED

Weighted duvets are, of course, heavy, so to avoid wear and tear in your shoulders we recommend that you lay the duvet on a flat surface and slide the duvet cover on bit by bit. When you buy one of our duvet covers, it comes with special instructions showing how you can easily attach the cover to the duvet.
